White Air 2009 GOES LIVE IN BRIGHTON!

Saturday, 19 September 2009

In a spectacular sea front fly past the Red Arrows opened White Air 2009 with an awesome aerobatic display. Soon after Secret Wars Graffiti kicked off competitions at the skate park the jam began with Mr Nord and Made You Look going through to the semi-finals tomorrow after their 90 minute face off session. Friday is also traditionally a chance for amateur and pro riders to get used to the park and practice their moves prior to the start of competitions over the weekend with plenty of inliners, skateboarders and mountain boarders setting the pace.

Renny Miles the current mountain board World Champion, and Tom Kirkman will be joined by Marco Daehler the current White Air Mountain Board European Cup Winner.

Keep your eyes out for Daryl Brown, Danny Pace and Adam Williams all here to compete in the mountain bike trials display and freestyle competitions. On the water a gentle Easterly dominated the day and the swell remained small allowing plenty of people to 'have-a-go' at paddle boarding, kayaking and wakeboarding.

In a dramatic enactment of an armed hostage release situation the Royal Marines, on site for three days at the White Air Extreme Sports and Music Festival 2009, landed two Zodiac boats onto the beach with a Lynx Mark 7 helicopter hovering right over the crowds to provide air fire support.

High divers plunged into 3m of water from a 30m tower and wakeboarders were towed by jet ski's over a 6ft foot ramp right on the shoreline.

The main stage on Friday opened at lunchtime with This City, Lyrebirds, Flood of Red and Doll & The Kicks. British Sea Power, adorning the stage with trees and playing as we speak, followed the legendary Lemonheads with lead singer Evan Dando on top vocal form playing some of their hits from the 90's and new tracks from their current album 'Varshons'.

White Lies, took to the stage after hot footing it down from London by helicopter, and Biffy Clyro's insane set finished what was an awesome kick start to Europe's Biggest Extreme Sports and Music Festival on Brighton Beach!

Saturday is underway, the weather is amazing, and huge crowds line the beach front.....much more soon!
